Angelo Favis
Classical guitarist Angelo Favis has earned international recognition as both a performer and champion of Filipino guitar repertoire. A prizewinner at the American String Teachers Association National Solo Competition and the Guitar Foundation of America's Eighth International Solo Competition, Favis has performed recitals throughout the United States, Southeast Asia, and the Philippines, including appearances as a featured soloist with the Saigon Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra.
Favis holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in classical guitar performance from the Manhattan School of Music, with earlier degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He is currently Professor of Guitar at the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts, Illinois State University, where he teaches applied guitar, ensemble, and pedagogy. His master classes have taken him to the University of the Philippines, Roosevelt University, Mahidol University in Bangkok, and the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music.
His two solo recordings for VGo Recordings — Philippine Treasures, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 — showcase his deep commitment to preserving and performing the classical guitar music of the Philippines, bringing works by Filipino composers to an international audience.
