Live Oak Baroque Orchestra
Live Oak Baroque Orchestra is the resident instrumental ensemble of Sonoma Bach, led by acclaimed Baroque violinist Elizabeth Blumenstock. Performing on period instruments with a one-on-a-part approach to 17th-century string repertoire, the ensemble has been praised for its sumptuous tone and breathtaking flair.
Blumenstock, who serves as concertmaster and soloist with the American Bach Soloists and Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, directs LOBO alongside associate director Aaron Westman. The ensemble features some of the finest period instrumentalists on the West Coast, including Tyler Lewis on violin, Maria Caswell on viola, Mary Springfels on viola da gamba, William Skeen on violoncello, and Phebe Craig on harpsichord. Blumenstock performs on a 1660 Andrea Guarneri violin from Cremona, on loan from the Philharmonia Baroque Period Instrument Trust.
Their recording of Concertos for Winter on VGo Recordings captures the warmth and virtuosity of this intimate ensemble, bringing the Baroque concerto repertoire to life with the passion and immediacy that have made LOBO a centerpiece of Sonoma County's early music scene.
