Isaac Bustos
Classical guitarist Isaac Bustos has earned over twelve major international competition prizes — seven of them first place — establishing himself as one of the leading Latin American guitar interpreters of his generation. He has toured extensively across Canada, Central America, Europe, China, and the United States, appearing as soloist with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Nicaraguan National Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of New Spain, and the Baytown Symphony Orchestra.
A founding member of the award-winning Texas Guitar Quartet, Bustos has collaborated with the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, the Conspirare Choir, and cellist Carlos Prieto. Composers including Nico Muhly, Samuel Zyman, and Peter Lieuwen have written works for him — he premiered Lieuwen's guitar concerto in 2019 with the University of Houston Symphony Orchestra.
Bustos holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from The University of Texas at Austin, where he studied under Adam Holzman. He currently serves as Assistant Professor of Music and Head of Guitar Studies at UT San Antonio. An Augustine Strings sponsored artist, he performs on a 2013 Martin Blackwell double-top spruce guitar.
His recording of Canciones A Mi Madre for VGo Recordings is a heartfelt collection of Latin American works that reflects his deep roots in the music of the Americas.
