Equally talented on stage and in the classroom, Ferrara has dedicated his life to performing and teaching the guitar. The first guitarist to earn a master’s degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, he has taught at the San Francisco Conservatory, City College of San Francisco, San Francisco State University, and the Spindrift School of Performing Arts. His teachers included Julian Bream and George Sakellariou. Ferrara has performed major recitals in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Carnegie Recital Hall in New York, as well as with ensembles like the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra and Bay Chamber Symphony.
Praised by *The New York Times* as “subtle, intimate and inherently musical,” Ferrara’s playing combines precision and elegance. He has served on the National Endowment for the Arts Music Advisory Panel, authored several guitar texts including the *Student Repertoire Series for Guitar*, and developed award-winning online courses. His solo CD, *American Guitar Music* (VGo Recordings), features works by Scott Joplin, George Gershwin, and Aaron Copland, among others, showcasing his versatility and artistry.
